Accident Sickness and Unemployment Insurance (ASU)
This is another form of protection that can be used to protect
your mortgage. Basically it is set up to protect your monthly mortgage
payments and any other associated mortgage costs that you may have
on a monthly basis against the effects of you either being off
work due to sickness or accident or being made unemployed.
This type of insurance should not be confused with Permanent Health
Insurance(PHI) because it does not serve the same purpose as ASU
will usually pay out a monthly benefit for up to a maximum period
of two years whereas PHI is permanent protection but usually more
costly.
ASU is also a very valuable insurance to have in place in connection
with your mortgage because it gives you the protection of knowing
that if one of these unexpected events occurs and your earnings
suddenly drop, that you will have piece of mind of knowing that
your insurance policy will kick in and cover your mortgage outgoings
while you are unable to work and your earnings have been reduced.
We must also advise all clients that this type of insurance does
come with certain conditions such as usually pre-existing conditions
or prior knowledge of a redundancy would not be covered under the
plan. There can also be certain time restrictions that may apply
when you take out your policy before you can make a claim and also
each claim will be assessed on each individual circumstance.
At Independent Mortgages & Loans we feel that this is an insurance
that all our clients should consider having in place because usually
your mortgage is your biggest financial commitment so it is important
to insure it against all eventualities.
